Chapter 238: Undead night attack (2)

Chapter 238: Undead night attack (2)

As soon as Eldrian recovered his spear he used its ability to recover his mana. While he was regening 0.65 MP per second, it would take a couple of minutes to regain all he had spent. Due to having experimented a little Eldrian had used close to 70MP.

Using the spear\'s ability to instantly regain 25MP helped lessen this time, and with it having only a 45-second cooldown Eldrian saw no use in shying from using it as often as he could. He had no idea how the spear was capable of restoring his stats, but he found it very useful. Though never having used it when training since he needed to rest between attempts to not gain fatigue levels. Following his natural recovery was a way of ensuring he didn\'t rush things.

As he had done all this, Eldrian had also moved to the woman lying unconscious on the floor. The first thing he did upon reaching her was checking if she was breathing and using Observe to figure out how severe the damage was.

This woman was not human, but rather some type of demi-human. Silver fur covered her hands, ears, and a part of her face seemingly extending from her silver hair. Eldrian saw no tail, but it might be hidden under her. She was currently lying face up with blood trickling down her cheek.

[Maria (Silver Fox Demi-Human)]

[Tier 1 (NPC); Level 6]

[HP: 17/127]

[Attack: 2]

[Agility: 110]

Shit, she\'s close to death. Eldrian quickly cast Thera and Anthizo on her. The first giving her a nice HP boost of 23 points, the latter giving her another 8 and some energy. This seemed to help, and Eldrian calmed down. He slowly looked around trying to figure out what had happened to her.

Eldrian found that there was a smear of flesh near her. Looking closer at her dark brown robe, he confirmed that blood and skin were covering the area over her chest.

What happened to her? Eldrian wondered, he felt that the undead had likely landed near her and then rebounded against her. This was what his findings were telling him, but Eldrian was by no means confident of his answer.

Wanting to confirm something Eldrian used Observe again to see if anything changes. As I thought... Eldrian found that her HP had decreased, only slightly. But this told him that she was still suffering from some kind of injury.

Quickly Eldrian started searching for it, started at her head he removed her hood. Letting her silver hair fall free, blood staining her hair with strong contrast. Following this Eldrian quickly found where she had hit her head. He didn\'t know how hard, or if this was the main cause of her situation. Nonetheless, he felt that a head injury was likely the most dangerous and as such started here.

Before doing so though, Eldrian tried to recall all the tales Erik had shared with him over time. Quickly hating himself for never having really delved more into how Erik healed people. While he had listened to plenty of stories, he found himself unable to think of how to heal this woman and in her current situation.

There has to be something. Recall! He always said he placed his hands over the wound, as a way to focus it. I should be able to do that and more! Before attempting this though, Eldrian first cast Anthizo on her again. Having remembered that Erik said it was vital to give the person energy to survive the healing process.

Right, divine and nature magic is really different. I remember Erik often complaining about how unfair divine is. They could normally skip this step, hence I need to do it as often as I can.

Eldrian quickly realized just how different treating an NPC was from treating players. With himself as a reference, he knew that he could just cast Thera on himself without much thought and it would work quite well. It wouldn\'t truly heal his injury, but it would recover his HP. Somehow the HP of players and NPCs differed. Eldrian didn\'t quite know how.

He knew that in the case for both, when their HP reached 0 they would die. For players though this can, and does happen, when they are still capable of fighting. Not to mention just not dying at that point.

Players had complained about it in the start, along with how monsters died or lived in unexpected ways. While the latter had been attended to by the developers, the case for players had stayed. Most players had accepted it though, believing it to simply be a game mechanic, a method of keeping it from completely reflecting reality.

Eldrian knew that there must be a much more confusing reason behind it. But for now, he couldn\'t bother to delve into this. He just kept this knowledge, along with the fact that NPCs could receive something Erik called shock damage. Where they would suddenly lose massive amounts of HP due to a situation happening with their injury.

Conscious of this danger, Eldrian placed his hands on her head and tried to figure out how to control Thera. He realized that he had never bothered to actually learn how to control Thera and Anthizo. These spells were much vaguer than others, not summoning something he could look at and focus onto. Rather it was just energy, mana, that was being sent from him to someone else.

In general, he would actually cast it half static and half dynamically. This held for Anthizo that he was much more used to, he would simply focus on the feeling to cast it. But he had never tried going past this. For Thera, he actually still relying solely on the spell module to cast it.

Due to this Eldrian quickly cast Thera on himself to remind him of how it felt, by this time he also used Aoidos\'s ability to recover his mana again. While Thera wasn\'t mana hungry, only costing 16MP, he was casting it quite a lot within a short time.

Alright, so it is similar to Anthizo. But instead of feeling like being given a burst of soothing energy, it is more that the soothing energy simply enters and disperses in me. I assume I need to stop it dispersing to focus it on the wound.

Eldrian thought, quickly attempting this on Maria. He found this much harder than he had thought. With spells like Nidia, Floga, and even Mifotia, Eldrian had something to look at and focus on. Here he could only vaguely feel his mana as it left his body, keeping control of it at this point was extremely hard.

He also found that mageia seemed unable to follow into her body, causing him even more problems in keeping control of the spell after having cast it. Eldrian had to accept that he couldn\'t actually keep control.

So he did the next best thing, instead of just casting the spell and letting that be it, he kept sending more mana into Maria. Ensuring that the mana felt and acted the same, keeping Thera active for much longer. The area under my hands... Where she is bleeding... Eldrian mumbled until he ran out of mana. By this time her head was completely healed, only the blood remaining. Which Eldrian promptly cleared with Nidia to confirm.

This done Eldrian took a deep sigh and used Aoidos\'s ability again. While at it he also returned to where he had found the area of impact on her chest. Eldrian was concerned, feeling wrong to be removing the unconscious woman\'s clothes. Believing his actions immoral.

If you don\'t find the cause, then she\'ll die! He shouted at himself, his hands shaking as he tried to figure out how to remove her clothes. Not familiar with the type of clothing, he quickly gave up, pulled a dagger from his inventory, and cut her clothes instead. Eldrian then rolled it up to allow him to see her ribs, covered in dark purple bruising.

Yes, her ribs must be broken. Or something, it seems like she is bleeding internally here. Eldrian rejoiced upon finding this. IRL this would mean he could do nothing more, seeing as he did not really know what this meant or how to fix it. But he was not IRL, he had magic.

Eldrian stopped himself from starting again, turning to confirm that there was no nearby danger first. He then waited to recover more mana and use Aoidos\'s ability again to recover some more. With this done Eldrian repeated what he had done at her head. Again he kept Thera going until he was out of mana, her HP having long since been filled up.

Seeing her breathing much easier than before Eldrian felt relieved. He kept using Observe though until he confirmed that she was not losing any HP anymore. Worried about the fact that she was not waking.

I can\'t just leave her here. And staying in the street is certain to be dangerous... Eldrian mumbled, looking up he could see a fight going on further down the street. He couldn\'t see clearly, and mostly only the sparks of when the two combatants\' weapons collided. The darkness of night having arrived while Eldrian was focused on saving the woman.

Eldrian first instinct was to rush over to offer help, but doing so would leave Maria on her own. Still better than me carrying her around without any idea where to go. Eldrian mumbled to himself, picking Maria up and throwing her over his shoulder.

This was most certainly ungracious, but it allowed him to hold one of his many spare swords in his free hand. In this manner, he quickly headed over to the fight.

Soon he could see the fight clearer, finding that a demi-human soldier only half-dressed in armor was facing a skeleton. How do you kill that then? Eldrian wondered as he moved closer, using Observe as soon as he was close enough for it to work.
